Seven source dossiers document Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force service in Richard’s direct family archive and wider research cohort. Three are direct-line records, two use family-tree-supported collateral relationships, one remains a qualified collateral record and one has no established family connector. These are ancestral and collateral records, not ranks, decorations or entitlements held by Richard.

Royal Navy promotion sequence and retired-list notice
Primary Gazette notices record his confirmation as Sub-Lieutenant with seniority from 1 July 1931, promotion to Lieutenant with seniority from 15 February 1933 and placement on the retired list in 1939. ESPNcricinfo separately records his 1937 first-class appearance for Combined Services.

John Arnold Hammond-Chambers-Borgnis
1883–1944
Territorial Force officer promoted to Captain in the Royal Defence Corps
The Gazette records his 1915 promotion from Second Lieutenant to Lieutenant, his 1917 promotion to Captain in the Royal Defence Corps, and his 1919 relinquishment as an Adjutant and Quartermaster while retaining the rank of Captain. A 1945 estate notice records his full identity and death on 11 October 1944.

The Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)
Richard Archibald Bulloch
1880–1963
Black Watch officer, DSO and Colonel
Primary records trace his 1899 commission from the Royal Military College into the Black Watch, 1917 DSO appointment, 1919 brevet Lieutenant-Colonel promotion, 1930 promotion to Colonel and 1936 retirement. The National Archives catalogue records his wartime roles with the 57th Infantry Brigade and 2nd Battalion, Black Watch.

Duncan Alwyn Macfarlane
1857–1941
Decorated collateral officer with a temporary Brigadier-General appointment
The Gazette records Major Duncan Alwyn Macfarlane’s DSO, Colonel D. A. Macfarlane’s temporary Brigadier-General rank and his later appointment as a Companion of the Order of the Bath while styled Colonel (temporary Brigadier-General).

Henry Borgnis Baret Hammond-Chambers
c. 1885–1916
King’s Own officer killed near Bazentin-le-Petit
The Gazette records Temporary Second Lieutenant H. B. B. Hammond-Chambers’s promotion to temporary Lieutenant. IWM and the King’s Own museum identify the full-name officer as a temporary Captain in the 7th Battalion, killed in action near Bazentin-le-Petit on 21 July 1916 and commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.

Coastal Command pilot with DSO and Bar and DFC and Bar
Four Gazette notices document his DFC, Bar to the DFC, DSO and Bar to the DSO with Nos. 206 and 120 Squadrons. RAF educational and museum records describe his anti-submarine patrols and record 350 operational missions, 4,568 flying hours and three U-boats sunk.

Robert Herbert Borgnis Hammond-Chambers

Royal Navy Commander, DSO and mention in despatches
The National Archives identifies his service record. Gazette notices confirm him as Sub-Lieutenant, record a DSO for Belgian-coast operations, separately list a later mention in despatches for the night of 22–23 April 1918, and promote him to Commander (Retired) in recognition of wartime service with effect from 11 November 1918.
